There are too many accidents on our roads. It is something we should all try to address, and it is something I have put my mind to recently, as is my wont from time to time.
And I have come up with a solution to all traffic accidents. It is so breathtakingly simple that I can not for the life of me understand why no-one has done this already. We just need to make the roads out of….
…rubber!
Honestly, think about it. I work quite close to a traffic roundabout, and the number of times that you hear screeching tires is incredible. But that is because it is rubber tires on (non-rubber) tarmac. Anyone who has played football on an rubbery astroturf pitch knows that rubber against rubber does not skid. It stops. Instantly.
Imagined the accidents that could be avoided if we introduced rubber roads? It would also make passing the theory part of your driving test a great deal easier.
“Stopping distance at 30mph?”
“Zero meters?”
“Correct! Now, stopping distance at 50mph?”
“err… Zero meters?”
“Correct!”
And if for whatever reason (eating a sandwich, using a phone or getting noshed off) you did accidentally hit someone, they would probably just bounce to safety like children do in those new-fangled playgrounds they have nowadays (so I have read, I do not hang around in kids playgrounds and anyone who says that I do is lying and those photos are fake.)
Write to your MPs suggesting this. Go on.
