How many of you reading this pay your car insurance premiums on time every month or year? Well I do too.
I’m also pleased to say that until last week I had not had cause to actually make a claim during my 10 years + of driving. A fact that I was not unreasonably proud of. Well, that record is now tarnished, as I have made a claim now, and what thoroughly soul destroying experience it has been….
How many of you reading this realise that the “fault” associated with an insurance claim actually has nothing whatsoever to do with the actual blame associated with the incident itself? It has absolutely everything to do with the insurance company recovering the costs of fixing your car.
I was unfortunate enough to have some scumbag spawn of the devil drive into my car whilst it was parked onthe street, and simply drive off without leaving witnesses or contact details. Now, as a result of their indiscretion, my insurance record reads “1 fault claim”.
“Er no”, I corrected the insurance customer ’service’ representative as we discussed the impact on my next premium, it wasn’t my fault in any way shape or form.
“But we can’t reclaim the money, so yes it is” was the paraphrased response!
After giving said representative a couple of dictionary definitions that clearly associated the word fault with the word blame, I was then given the golden nugget of wisdom that their definition of the word fault was different. Oh. We’re redefining words now are we? I didn’t realise. Excellent news, in fact, I’d like to redifine the word “helpful” as the phrase “a wanker of the feckin highest order”.
“You’ve been helpful”
The call was cut short soon after, and I look forward to my increased insurance premium with baited breath…

There’s a very amusing paragraph in my policy booklet that clearly explains “We operate a no CLAIMS bonus. This is not a no BLAME bonus”.
